My Second Holiday in Kenya

About a week ago I was sitting on a plane on the way to Kenya, it was my second time there and I was really exited about going back, my first time was all the way back in April 2007. We arrived in Nairobi When it was dark, a cab picked us up and drove us to Tribe, which is a hotel which is managed by one of my mum's old friends Mark Somen. I thought it was a really smart hotel, we also thought it was really well designed. We had a drink at the bar and Louis and I went to look at the pool, after that we had a good sushi for supper. The next day we had a yummy breakfast, but then we had to pack up and leave.
Then we got on a plane and flew to Manda which is where we had gone last time but this time we where going to stay at a different place to the one we stayed at last time. When we arrived at Manda we saw a very colourful boat called Angalia with lots of flags on it which then took us to Diamond beach, which was were we were staying for the rest of the holiday. We were met at the beach by Rachel, who owned the place with her mum, Helen. Rachel took us to where we were staying, a house built around a tree (A sort of tree house except it had a ground floor) I thought it looked like a fun place with some of the trees branches going through some of the rooms. The tree was called a Baobab tree, which is a funny tree as it looks as if it had been pulled up from its roots, turned upside down and then put back in the ground again. We settled in a bit before having supper with Rachel and Helen and played Perudo with them, Perudo is a game from Peru where you have to try and make your opponent loose all their dice by tricking them. The next day we swam in the sea in the morning and in the afternoon. But unfortunately the sun didn't last long and the next day and most of the following days we heard the continuous sound of rain. We would wait at a sheltered table and play Perudo and Backgammon until the rain stopped for a bit and we could swim or go for a walk along the beach. We went to a lovely restaurant called Pepponis twice, Pepponis is on another island called Lamu which is opposite we were staying. Another day we went to Lamu town with Rachel, who needed to buy supplies, at Lamu town we had a really fun day, the whole town was full of bustling activity, there were lots of donkeys around and you could smell what they left behind, although I was a bit shocked at how bad some of them were treated. First we went to the museum and a really cheerful guide showed us around, explaining about all the exhibits as we went then we walked to the fort in the town. On the way there my dad bought me a model boat which he had one of when he was a little boy which I was really happy to get. Then we had a quick visit to the fort and then went to have a pizza with Rachel. We ordered our food but then when the waitress came she accidentally stepped on my boat! Thankfully it wasn't that broken and we fixed it as soon as we got home. On the day before we left mum, dad and me decided to swim the gap between Lamu and Manda, with Louis cheering us on from Ronaldo (another of the boats). We all made it and I found it very rewarding. Then mum and dad swam back, with Louis and me cheering from Ronaldo. On the last day I was very sad to be leaving, I met some really kind people and I hope I can go back again.

well done Archie, a lovely description of Lamu and the island. I loved reading about it , and I could smell it too! I may have given your dad a Lamu cookery book. Ask him if I did. I wonder if your dad found the house we rented for a holiday when he was about your age? It faced the beach between Lamu and Shela so you would have passed it if you walked to Peponi's along the beach.Glad that you got some swimming in, it is not bad, even when it rains as the water is always warm.Well I think it must have been quite warm. Great to think you swam from island to island , what fun. Granny
